The Peaks Island Fiber Arts Camp
was launched in 2004 by Laura Glendening and
Susan Hanley. Now in our ninth year, we are offering a variety of camps and workshops!

The Peaks Island Fiber Arts Camps weave fiber arts, outdoor play and handcrafts into a themed week of fun. All camps emphasize natural materials, outdoor work and cooperation, and take place at either Susan’s or Laura's homes and yards on Peaks Island. Travel to and from the island via Casco Bay Lines is part of the adventure! Chaperones are available upon request.

Susan is an accomplished seamstress, embroiderer and self-confessed history nut who has spent many years pursuing her interest in historic textiles, needlework and handcrafts. A big fan of experiential learning, Susan is dedicated to working with children and inspiring them to learn through projects, play and good old-fashioned fun.

Laura has been making art - from mud pies to bronze sculptures – all her life.  Working with plant dyes for almost 20 years now, she finds great value in the process of thoughtfully gathering dyestuff, cooking dye pots outdoors, and seeing the colors that plants give.  Presently Laura is working on a series of plant dyed felted blankets and weaving on a Navajo style loom.
